WATCH: Beagle rescued from Cumberland testing facility now pampered in adoptive home

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Thousands of beagles needed new homes after they were bred and sold for experimental purposes in a Cumberland County facility. Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) shared a heartwarming video on Monday of how one such beagle is doing in their new home.
After years of 8News’ investigative reports, about 4,000 beagles rescued from the Envigo facility in Cumberland were sent to various shelters in hopes of finding them new homes. These animals had endured disturbing conditions prior to the facility's forced closure.
Once the beagles found themselves in the hands of caring shelters, they were finally given the chance to explore what life beyond Envigo had to offer. Video from a Fairfax County shelter shows the joy dozens of these beagles felt when they were able to play in grass for the first time ever.
These shelters quickly began the hunt to find these beagles loving homes. One such shelter was RACC, which took in more than 80 of Envigo's beagles. The adoption process was a resounding success overall.

On Monday, July 14 -- more than three years after the race to find these dogs loving homes took place -- RACC shared a video from one of the Envigo beagles' adoptive families.
In the video, the beagle can be seen sitting on a couch with a little girl while she gently pulls a comb through the dog's fur.
"This perfect pairing just goes to show how animals’ lives can be transformed thanks to an amazing team who never give up," RACC said. "From a testing facility in Farmville to a couch beauty shop with the very best hairdresser is quite a step up."

RACC praised the efforts of not just its own employees, but all animal rescuers who are fighting to find animals safe, caring fur-ever homes.
"Here’s to all the animal rescue folks out there fighting every day for a better life for the animals you love," RACC said. "And if it comes in the shape of a perfect little blonde hair stylist — all the better!"
