27-year-old Henrico man identified as victim of fiery I-295 crash in Hanover involving shots fired

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The driver who was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 295 in Hanover County Tuesday evening, after police said they were shot at, has been identified as a 27-year-old Henrico County man.
The man killed was identified by Virginia State Police as 27-year-old Hunter Davis of Henrico County.
This comes after Virginia State Police troopers were called to I-295 South near Pole Green Road in Hanover County for the report of a crash at around 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
When troopers arrived, they learned that a 2011 white Ford F-150 pickup truck had run off the road, crashed and caught fire. State police said that someone shot at the truck before it crashed.
The driver, who has since been identified as Davis, died at the scene. Next of kin was notified, according to police.
An 8News viewer who drove by the scene just moments after the crash occurred shared a video of what she witnessed. You can see a vehicle engulfed in flames on the shoulder and heavy smoke pouring into the sky.

All southbound lanes were initially closed and later opened at 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, according to police.
