Chesterfield woman charged with abuse and neglect after 23-year-old niece dies in hospital
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Chesterfield County Police Department has arrested a woman after her alleged abuse and neglect led to the death of her 23-year-old niece.
Officers were called to Chippenham Hospital on Sunday, March 31, after it was reported a woman -- now identified as 23-year-old Secrett T. Curtis -- had been brought in by rescue personnel with signs of malnourishment.
Police said she was declared dead shortly after her arrival at the hospital and her remains were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to be examined.
According to police, Secrett Curtis had cerebral palsy and was autistic. She had lived at a residence in the 200 block of Philray Road with her aunt and primary caretaker, 49-year-old Tina T. Curtis.
Tina Curtis was arrested on Tuesday, April 1, and was charged with abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult leading to their death.
In a release on Wednesday, April 2, police said Tina Curtis is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
