Hanover asks public to give back for 9/11 Day of Service
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Hanover County is inviting the public to give back to their communities and honor those who died on Sept. 11, 2001, during the 9/11 National Day of Service.
County residents can sign up to volunteer alongside Team Hanover in tackling multiple local projects, including delivering meals to seniors, cleaning and beautifying public spaces or assisting at a nonprofit thrift store, on Thursday, Sept. 11.
According to a release shared by the county on Thursday, Aug. 7, community members joined more than 200 county employees in finishing 19 projects and contributed 538 hours of service during last year's 9/11 Day of Service.
“Each act of service is a tribute to the strength, compassion and resilience shown in the aftermath of 9/11,” said County Administrator John A. Budesky. “For Hanover County, it’s also a chance to build deeper connections and make a lasting difference in the lives of others.”
The county said this day is observed annually as the "largest day of service in the nation," and encourages people to serve together to honor those who died on Sept. 11, 2001.
Those who cannot volunteer on Sept. 11 are encouraged to still share their support here.
