Mechanicsville Christmas Parade to close several roads downtown

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Hanover County drivers should be aware of several road closures that will be in place on Sunday for the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade. From 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade will travel through the downtown Mechanicsville area. According to the Hanover County Sheriff's Office, multiple roads along its route will see closures to allow for a safe parade experience. Beginning at 11 a.m. on Sunday, traffic on HanoverGreen Drive will be limited to parade traffic only. Then, at 1:30 p.m., traffic throughout the downtown Mechanicsville area will be shut down for parade preparation and pedestrian traffic. That route is as follows: Signal Hill Road to Strain Avenue Strain Avenue to Hillis Way Hillis Way to Atlee Road Atlee Road to Business Route 360 Business Route 360 to Elm Drive "It is anticipated the area will be congested with both pedestrian and vehicular traffic for a significant period of time before and after the parade," the sheriff's office said. "Please plan your travels accordingly. It is the goal of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office to facilitate the safe flow of traffic for this special event in such a way that causes minimal inconveniences to our citizens."
