Prince George school bus hit head-on by driver having medical emergency

PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A driver experiencing a medical emergency hit a Prince George County school bus head-on Tuesday afternoon.

At about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, a school bus with Prince George County Schools that was headed to L.L. Beazley Elementary School for afternoon pickup was involved in a crash, according to school officials.

The bus was moving through the intersection of Laurel Spring and Courthouse roads when another driver reportedly crossed the center line and hit the bus head-on.

No students were on the bus at the time of the crash. The only two people on board -- the bus driver and the bus aide -- were thankfully unhurt.

The driver of the other vehicle was having a medical emergency at the time of the crash, per Prince George County Fire and EMS. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A substitute bus was sent out to the elementary school to pick up and take impacted students home.
