Several weeks of closures coming to streets near Henrico, Hanover line

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Several weeks of closures are coming to two streets near the border of Henrico and Hanover counties to allow for a sewer main to be replaced and a roundabout to be installed.

Starting on Tuesday, Sept. 30, portions of Holman Drive and Shady Grove Road will see daily road closures from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., according to a Sept. 26 press release.

The project will be carried out in three phases, each with a different work area along these streets.

"Non-local drivers are encouraged to avoid the area during all three phases if possible," Henrico officials said in the release.

Here's a breakdown of what those in the area can expect:

Phase 1: Holman Drive near Shady Grove

  • Impacted area: Holman Drive near its intersection with Shady Grove Road
  • Project start date: Tuesday, Sept. 30
  • Project duration: About one week

For this part of the project, crews will be installing a new sewer main in the work area. Traffic will be detoured to enter the neighborhood from Nuckols Road during working hours.

Phase 2: Portion of Shady Grove

  • Impacted area: Shady Grove Road from Holman Drive to Shady Hills Way
  • Project start date: Once first phase is complete
  • Project duration: About four weeks

Similar to the first phase, during this part of the project, crews will be installing a new sewer main in the work area. Traffic will be detoured through the Shady Hills neighborhood during working hours, with officers with the Henrico County Police Division managing traffic flow as needed.

Phase 3: Shady Grove, Holman Drive and Shady Hills

  • Impacted area: Intersection of Shady Grove Road and Holman Drive/Shady Hills Way
  • Project start date: Once second phase is complete
  • Project duration: About six to eight weeks

During this part of the project, crews will construct a roundabout in the work area. While there will be lane closures and flagging operations throughout the construction period, the involved roads are expected to remain open.

The timeline of this project may change depending on weather conditions, officials said.
