Spotsylvania man charged after over 100 mph pursuit in Caroline

CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Spotsylvania County man was arrested after a Monday morning pursuit in Caroline County reached speeds of over 100 mph.

At about 7:30 a.m. on Monday, April 14, a deputy with the Caroline County Sheriff's Office tried to perform a traffic stop on the driver of a blue Nissan sedan on Interstate 95 near Carmel Church. According to authorities, the driver was reportedly speeding and weaving dangerously through traffic.

The driver did not stop, per authorities, instead speeding up and continuing to move south on I-95. A pursuit began, with the Nissan reaching speeds over 100 mph.

The driver reportedly exited at Doswell, headed towards Kings Dominion, then turned around and re-entered I-95 on the northbound side. According to authorities, the pursuit ultimately ended near where it began when the driver pulled over and surrendered.

Authorities identified the driver as 21-year-old Emonte Thompson of Spotsylvania County. He was arrested and charged with felony eluding and reckless driving.

He is being held at the Pamunkey Regional Jail on bond.
