StormTracker8: Monday brings strong to severe storms to the area
Richmond, Va (WRIC) -- All eyes are remaining on Monday’s threat for strong to severe thunderstorms. Details below.
Tonight’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies, scattered showers and a thunderstorm or two especially during the overnight hours, and mild temperatures getting down to around 60 degrees as a warm front will be lifting through the viewing area ahead of Monday’s powerful weather system.
Monday remains a VIPIR Alert day for strong to severe thunderstorms. An isolated severe storm or two is possible prior to 2:00 p.m. Monday, but the main timing for the storms is around 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. from west to east. The Metro Richmond storm timing, so for Hanover County, Henrico County, the City of Richmond, and Chesterfield County is around 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.




The primary risks are damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes. Secondary risks are small hail, frequent lightning and isolated power outages. Watches and warnings will likely be issued tomorrow afternoon and evening, so have a way to get those alerts on Monday. Aside from the storm threat Monday, we will see mostly cloudy skies and warm temperatures, rising to around 75 degrees.

Tomorrow night into Tuesday morning, we will see skies clearing out, temperatures plummeting on the back end of this strong surface cold front, down to 30 to 35 degrees under mostly clear skies.
Tuesday is St. Patrick’s Day, and we will see partly sunny skies, and much cooler temperatures, rising to 45 to 50 degrees.
Wednesday morning will be a cold morning for everyone, starting off in the 20s.
Wednesday calls for partly sunny skies, and cool temperatures, rising to 45 to 50 degrees.
Thursday calls for partly sunny skies, and more comfortable temperatures, rising to 55 to 60 degrees.
Friday is the first day of Spring, and we will see mostly cloudy skies, comfortable temperatures rising to 65 to 70 degrees and isolated showers possible.
The upcoming weekend will be mild both days, as Saturday we will see mostly cloudy skies and highs 65 to 70 degrees while on Sunday we will see partly sunny skies, highs near 75 degrees and isolated showers possible.
Finally, next Monday will be a mostly cloudy day with cooler temperatures, back into the 50s.
