Trial date set for man accused in deadly Shockoe Bottom mass shooting

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- One of the three suspects in a tragic Shockoe Bottom mass shooting that left two people dead and several others hurt will stand trial in July.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 21, nine people were shot in the 00 block of N. 18th Street in Richmond's Shockoe Bottom. Two of those victims, 23-year-old Genesis Tamar Jones of Petersburg and 42-year-old Dominic Antoine Jackson of Henrico County, died at the scene.

Three Henrico County men were charged in connection with this shooting in early March --including Jackson's brother, 25-year-old Drevon Jackson-Brown, as well as 27-year-old Carlos Johnson, Jr. and 22-year-old Sha'quan Morris.

On Monday, April 6, all three suspects had court hearings in the Richmond City Circuit Court.

During his hearing, Morris had a trial date set. He will stand before a grand jury for a two-day trial starting at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15. He currently faces two charges: first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Meanwhile, Jackson-Brown and Johnson next appear in court for status hearings on April 22. Both men face the same four charges each: one count of first-degree murder, one count of malicious wounding and two counts of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
