Two Richmond veterans honored at White House for National Purple Heart Day

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Two Richmond veterans were honored at the White House on Thursday for National Purple Heart Day.

Around 100 Purple Heart recipients joined at the White House on Thursday, Aug. 7, to receive recognition from President Donald Trump in honor of National Purple Heart Day, according to a release.

Among these recipients were Chris LaCivita, a Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) alumni and former campaign manager on Trump's presidential campaign, and Jesse Grapes, president of the Benedictine Schools of Richmond.

Purple Heart Day Ceremony takes place at Virginia War Memorial

The event was hosted for Trump to give remarks and highlight the achievements of those that gave personal sacrifices while serving in the armed forces.

Several members of Trump's administration were also in attendance, the release said, including Secretary Pete Hegseth with the U.S. Department of Defense and Secretary Doug Collins with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
