UVA parts ways with women’s basketball head coach

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Cavaliers are on the hunt for a new head coach after parting ways with Amaka Agugua-Hamilton.

The school announced on Saturday that Agugua-Hamilton has concluded her four-year tenure at the University of Virginia with a 70-58 overall record, including a 29-42 mark in ACC play.

The news comes after a historic run with Agugua-Hamilton’s 2025-26 team that was selected as a First Four team in the NCAA tournament. The Cavaliers then went on a run, advancing all the way to the Sweet 16 round, the first-ever First Four team to do so in the history of the women’s tournament.

UVA said a national search for her replacement will begin immediately.

The university did not provide a reason as to why it is parting ways with Agugua-Hamilton.

As of Saturday afternoon, Agugua-Hamilton has not put out a statement on the matter.
