Virginia appears in emails within Epstein files about testing kits, TV series and more

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia is mentioned in multiple investigative files on Jeffrey Epstein, including emails about a TV series being filmed in Richmond, testing kits sent from the Commonwealth to his home in New York, and more. Here's what 8News has found so far.

In 2008, after federal officials found that Epstein had allegedly sexually abused dozens of children as young as 14, Epstein was convicted in Florida for procuring a child for prostitution and soliciting a prostitute as part of a plea deal.

He was arrested again in July 2019 on federal charges for sex trafficking of minors in Florida and New York. Officials said he killed himself in his jail cell on Aug. 10, 2019.

In recent weeks, the U.S. Justice Department released millions of pages of documents relating to the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, his sexual abuse of young girls and the people that he interacted with.

8News has compiled a short list of Virginia connections that appear within the files.

2009: Epstein mentions Virginia to redacted email address

In an email exchange from June 2009, Jeffrey Epstein mentions to a redacted email address that a family, whose names are not mentioned, moved to Virginia.

"The whole family moved to virginia in 10 of 08,, probably connected to our other virginia case," Epstein stated in the email.

In a reply from a redacted email address, the responder joked that they didn't know people actually lived in Virginia.

"I didn't think people actually lived in virginia :)," the email said.

In an email exchange from November 2013, producer Barry Josephson corresponded with Eva Dubin, a longtime associate and girlfriend of Epstein, and mentioned he was filming the television series "TURN: Washington's Spies" in Richmond.

He forwarded his exchange with Dubin to Epstein with a smiley face.

Multiple media outlets have reported on Josephson's connection to Epstein since the recent release of files.

2015: Celebrity doctor's Richmond-based lab sends Epstein and friend testing kits

In an email exchange with celebrity doctor Peter Attia and Epstein's assistant, Lesley Groff, Attia told Groff that he asked his Richmond-based lab to send a kit to Epstein's home at 9 E. 71st St. in New York.

He added that he will send paperwork separately to the same address.

When both the test kit and paperwork arrive, Attia said his team's phlebotomist would be scheduled to arrive at Epstein's home or office to draw his blood.

Attia added that he would receive the results about a week after the blood draw.

In another email, Attia said he would send out a second kit the next day and set up a blood work appointment for "Jeffrey's friend," who Epstein said in a reply was named "Leon." It's unclear who Leon may be.

Attia has since released a lengthy statement on social media regarding his connection to Epstein, in which he said he was not involved in criminal activity, but that he apologized and regretted putting himself in such a position.

2016: Richmond-based True Health Diagnostics sends Epstein testing kit

True Health Diagnostics, which has since permanently closed, was a laboratory provider located at 737 N. 5th St. in Richmond's Downtown area.

An email exchange from January 2016 between True Health Diagnostics employees and Groff showed that the company mailed Epstein a "standard kit" to his home at 9 E. 71st St. in New York.

The exchange appears to have been made in connection with Attia's medical company.
