Virginia ranks 9th in best U.S. states for working from home

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia has made the nation's top 10 states to work from home, scoring high in ideal setups for remote working environments.

A new WalletHub report found that the Commonwealth is among a handful of states that are best for working remotely. The study compared 50 U.S. states and evaluated them across two key dimensions, work environment and living environment.

Per the report, states were graded on 12 metrics that add up to 100 points representing the best infrastructure to support working from home. This includes the share of remote workers, the share of potential telecommuters, internet cost and access to a wired low-priced internet plan.

Virginia ranked ninth overall with 63.24 points, placing 11th in work environment and 14th in living environment among all U.S. states. The Commonwealth also ranked eighth in the share of population working from home and 12th in internet cost.

Utah took the top spot with 70.07 points, placing ninth in work environment and first in living environment. Delaware, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Washington and North Carolina rounded out the top 10.
