‘Your decisions behind the wheel matter’: Driver arrested, car destroyed after DUI crash in Orange

ORANGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 35-year-old Orange County driver was arrested after authorities say he destroyed his car while driving under the influence.

On Saturday, March 28, deputies were called to the area of Marquis and Lahore roads for report of a single-vehicle crash.

When they arrived, deputies found a car that had been significantly damaged and a driver who was showing "numerous signs of intoxication," per authorities.

That driver, a 35-year-old Orange man, reportedly refused to take a breathalyzer test, authorities said. He also refused to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs).

The driver was then arrested for driving under the influence and held on a $5,000 unsecured bond until he was sober, according to authorities.

"This crash is another reminder that driving under the influence puts everyone on the road at risk," the sheriff's office said. "If you plan to drink, please arrange a sober ride home. Your decisions behind the wheel matter."
