Local public utilities teams to conduct field tests for water main relocation project

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Local public utilities teams are set to conduct field tests on Tuesday as part of a water main relocation project.

Teams with Henrico and Hanover counties and the city of Richmond will be conducting tests on Tuesday, Sept. 20, for the 36-inch water transmission main that runs along Hermitage Road.

The relocation of the main is taking place in coordination with the Diamond District development project and is associated with the water distribution systems for Hanover and Henrico, according to a release from Richmond officials on Monday.

The aim of the tests is to check the stability and resilience of the water system while a contractor ties in the new relocated water main -- which is currently estimated to take place in mid to late October.

Additionally, the tests will help determine adjustments that are needed from an operational standpoint to continue providing adequate water pressure throughout the peak demand periods of the tie-in process, per a release.

Officials said the field tests are expected to be completed by 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Although no water service impacts to citizens are anticipated, from around 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., residents in the following areas may experience water pressure that is lower than normal:

  • North Side
  • Scott's Addition
  • Chamberlayne
  • Richmond Raceway
  • Highland Park
  • Mechanicsville
