Virginia Museum of History and Culture to host film mythbusting event featuring ‘The Patriot’

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia Museum of History and Culture will host an event featuring "The Patriot" on Friday, a movie about the Revolutionary War starring Mel Gibson and Heath Ledger, with live commentary on the historical truths and inaccuracies throughout the film.

The event comes through the museum's "Movie Mythbusting LIVE!" series, and will be held from 6 to 8 p.m.

Tickets include after-hours access to the VMHC's VA250th exhibition, "Give Me Liberty: Virginia and The Forging of a Nation."

Wraps, sandwiches, salads, popcorn, other snacks and drinks -- alcoholic and non-alcoholic -- will reportedly be available for purchase from the museum café.

Attendees were invited to arrive as early as 5 p.m. to explore the exhibition before the showing begins.

Due to the movie's running time, organizers said some sections will be fast-forwarded to facilitate discussions.

"The Patriot" is rated R, and visitors must be 18 years old or older to attend.

Tickets are $10 for museum members and $12 for non-members, according to the museum. Folks can learn more and grab their tickets on the museum's website.
